Navy and orange, Forsyth County, Georgia. Up a class this fall into Region 8-AAAAA, 5–2 through seven games and 1–1 in the region, third behind two unbeaten sides after an open date on Oct. 16.
East Forsyth was open on Oct. 16, so the Broncos come into this one off two weeks’ rest. North Oconee is 7–1 and 3–0 in the region after 55–0 over Winder-Barrow, 59–7 at Madison County and 31–6 at home over Flowery Branch — 145 points and 13 conceded across its three region games. The Titans are No. 5 in Class AAAAA in the AJC’s Oct. 11 poll and 3rd in GPB’s, and their only defeat is 20–14 at Jackson County. It is the first of East Forsyth’s two remaining home games.
Jefferson scored on its opening drive and led 21–0 at half at Memorial Stadium. The Broncos’ defense took two interceptions, but a fourth-quarter fumble was returned 42 yards for a score and East Forsyth finished with 71 yards of offense; Brooks Smallwood had 60 rushing yards on 17 touches (AccessNorthGA). It is the Dragons’ fourth shutout in a row and the first Bronco shutout of the season.
Week 9 was a two-game week and both leaders won it: North Oconee 31–6 at home over Flowery Branch, Jefferson 42–0 at home over Madison County for a fifth straight shutout. That leaves the Titans and the Dragons alone at 3–0 with East Forsyth, Winder-Barrow and Johnson all open. The Broncos hold third at 1–1, Flowery Branch is 1–2, Winder-Barrow 0–2 and Madison County 0–3. The AJC’s Oct. 11 poll holds North Oconee at No. 5 and Jefferson at No. 8 in Class AAAAA; GPB’s current top ten has them 3rd and 7th. North Oconee visits East Forsyth on Oct. 23, and the two unbeaten sides meet at Jefferson on Oct. 30.

The state rushing leaders in the Friday Game Night area: “Brooks Smallwood of East Forsyth is 30th with 896 yards.” The same notebook calls Region 8-5A “a two-team race.” Written before Friday’s games, and it prints East Forsyth’s region record as 2–0; the Broncos are 1–1.
“Here’s a look at where Forsyth County public school football teams sit in the GHSA Postseason Rankings following the Week 8 slate.” Behind a hard paywall, so only the headline and that line are shown here.
Walker McCrary’s second item is the region: “Jefferson is setting the pace in 8-5A … We thought East Forsyth might pose some challenges in the run game against Jefferson. Well, I’ll be the first to admit, I was wrong.”
The game story from Memorial Stadium. Jefferson scored on its opening drive, led 21–0 at half and finished with 369 yards to East Forsyth’s 71. “It’s just the second time in program history the Dragons have had four straight shutouts, but the first time they’ve done it in a single season.”
Todd Holcomb’s obituary for Brian Allison, who died at 60 after a battle with cancer. He started the Broncos’ program in 2021 and went 121–77 across two spells at his alma mater, Union County.
The Friday Game Night scoreboard, carrying both region games — Jefferson 42–0 over Madison County and North Oconee 31–6 over Flowery Branch — and naming East Forsyth and Johnson among the schools that were off. “Jefferson extended its school-record streak of shutouts to five.”
“For the fifth time in a row, Jefferson pitched a shutout as they blanked Madison County, 42-0.” CJ Hays opened with a 65-yard run, Austen Kitchings made it 21–0 before the end of the first quarter, and Chrystian Little broke free for 65 yards. Jefferson is at Winder-Barrow next.
The dated statewide round-up, carrying both Region 8 games: North Oconee 31–6 over Flowery Branch and Jefferson 42–0 over Madison County.
“Gainesville, North Hall and Flowery Branch are all inside the Top 32 in their respective classification.” Behind a hard paywall, so only the headline and that line are shown here.
Todd Holcomb’s poll, still the current one: North Oconee holds at No. 5 and Jefferson at No. 8 in Class AAAAA. GPB’s current top ten has the same two 3rd and 7th, and has already advanced them to 7–1 and 6–2. The two polls routinely differ by a place or two.
One quirk of the new alignment. Johnson (Gainesville) is listed in Region 8-AAAAA but has no region games on its schedule. The other six schools play a five-game round robin, so the region race is effectively a six-team race.
